How Safe Are Your Existing Doorway Finger Guards?

Over the past 10 years, along with a rise in finger-trapping accidents in schools has inevitably come an increased propensity to lodge compensation claims.

In terms of preventative measures, many schools and  educational establishments began to fit finger guards to their doors some years ago, in the hope of eradicating this type of accident.

However, with a vast number of finger guard products made available at the time, the design and quality of the finger guards varied significantly.

Some finger guards were comprised merely of brittle and flimsy plastic and were only supplied with a standard 12 month guarantee.

Others, particularly the Fingershield device were manufactured from hard-wearing, thick UPVC plastic and due to extensive testing were able to be offered with a 10 year warranty.

Many schools are now experiencing difficulties as the cheaper guards that were fitted a number of years ago are beginning too wear loose, hanging off the frame or even splitting down their seams, rendering the guard useless.

The unfortunate consequence of this is that in the event of a finger-trapping incident, the school will be held responsible for not maintaining the Health & Safety products that are in place, despite showing the diligence in the first place to install them.

In order to help schools to take remedial action, Fingershield offer a unique free Inspection service, whereby a skilled and CRB cleared Door Safety Surveyor will attend your premises and inspect your existing devices.  Our surveyor will provide a detailed report on findings as well as a quotation for any replacements required.

To book an inspection service,  contact Fingershield on our freephone number 0800 980 9444 or by e-mail at info@fingershield.co.uk.
