Courageous Cam gets 999 award

Louise and Cameron Bower A little boy whose finger-end was almost cut off has been given a bravery award by the ambulance crew that went to his aid.

Two year-old Cameron Bower was in terrible pain when he trapped his finger in a door at a pre-school in Thoresby Street, Hull. Fortunately, paramedic Steve Smythe and emergency medical technician Joe Lowden arrived within two minutes of a 999 call.

Steve said: "It was a nasty injury. Cameron's finger was partially amputated."

"The end was hanging off. We dressed it to hold it together and then headed for Hull Royal Infirmary as quickly as possible, warning the hospital we were on our way. It must have been agony, but we calmed him down. He soon stopped crying. Both Joe and I were so impressed with his bravery, we thought it would be nice to present him with an award."

Cameron's mum Louise, of Spring Bank West, said: "The ambulance crew were great and they got there so quickly - I never had time to thank them. I nearly went to pieces. I think I was worse than Cameron at the time. "I'm so proud of him and so grateful to the crew and the staff at Hull Royal Infirmary. They all did a brilliant job."
